NASA’s App Development Challenge (ADC) is searching for middle (grades 5-8) and high school (grades 9-12) coding teams to create an app visualizing the South Pole region of the Moon.
Teams will utilize lunar terrain data to create a visualization displaying essential information for navigation and communication and post videos of their app solutions online. Favorable submissions advance to present their app in an interview with engineers and scientists working with NASA’s Space Communications and Navigation (SCaN) team. After interviews, NASA will invite the Top Team(s) to NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston for a culminating event experience in April 2024.
To participate in the ADC, lead educators (teacher sponsor) must register their student team by September 27, 2023 at NASA STEM Gateway. During the challenge, October 4-December 13, 2023, teams will participate in live virtual connections with NASA subject matter experts to learn more about coding, app development, space communications and navigation.
The ADC is an ideal activity for an afterschool club at Henrico County Public Schools to enrich student knowledge in computer programming and project planning.
