HVA Supplemental (Virtual Virginia & Edgenuity)

At the secondary level, Henrico Virtual Academy uses two additional learning platforms to meet diploma requirements for students. Staff members at the HVA support students using these platforms, but content is managed by these external sources, including Virtual Virginia and Edgenuity.

Virtual Virginia

A number of secondary courses are taught by Virtual Virginia staff. These course offerings are dependent on student diploma requirements and staffing. Students may participate in weekly live sessions as scheduled or view recordings of the live sessions. Work is done asynchronously with specific deadlines for assignments, including assessments. Virtual Virginia instructors grade assignments, test students and provide accommodations as needed. All students enrolled in the HVA and taking classes through Virtual Virginia are in the FY2 Virtual Virginia cohort. Please note that the school calendar for Virtual Virginia classes does not mirror the calendar for Henrico County Public Schools and can be found on their website.

For student support with Virtual Virginia classes offered through the HVA, students and families can reach out to the teacher at Virtual Virginia, HVA mentor, or the grade level counselor at HVA.

Edgenuity

Edgenuity courses are fully asynchronous. A staff member at HVA is designated to support Edgenuity courses. Assessments have to be unlocked periodically by contacting the support staff for the specific Edgenuity course.

Edgenuity Courses include:

  • Digital Citizenship.

  • Spanish I (temporarily being used).

Accessing Clever:

Please make sure your student is following these steps:

  1. Student logs into Clever.

  2. Scroll down to find the Edgenuity button.

  3. HCPS login/ID is the only valid username and password that can be used to access the course materials.

This course does not take place through Schoology, and students will have no access to course materials there. The above icon must be accessed to complete the course requirements.

Troubleshooting

If the above Edgenuity icon is NOT showing on your student’s Clever account:

  1. Visit your closest HCPS school and have your student do a hard restart of their computer (fully power down by holding in the power button, restart, and log back in)

  2. Visit the Clever site to see if the icon appears – there have been a few families with luck doing this!

  3. Try searching “Edgenuity” in the above blue search bar at the top right-hand corner of your Clever account (it may just need added to your student’s dashboard)
