HVA Principal’s Message

Garry Marshall, Principal
Welcome to the HVA!
Thank you for choosing our school as your partner in learning! It is my proud honor to serve the entire school division as the Henrico Virtual Academy Principal. I have always had a passion for technology and leading a virtual school is a dream come true in many ways. Since moving here to teach in 2001, I have consistently worked to ensure equity and access to strong instructional programs for all students in our community. Our school is unique in many ways and make up a community unlike any other. We are the school division's only K-12 independent school and will surprise you with all of our offerings and opportunities for students even though we are a virtual school. Our students come to us for a variety of reasons and most find success in the virtual setting with some of the barriers that may have been a challenge in the past removed. Our teachers have a unique skill set adapted to the virtual setting and thrive at helping students reach high expectations and in connecting with our students.
Together, we will ensure your student has an amazing school year. I ask that you read our weekly updates to stay informed and make sure that your contact information is correct. We will also frequently post to our social media feeds. Updates will include information about ways to connect and build bridges within our community by attending virtual and in person events. Please take advantage of all HVA has to offer this school year and help make sure that all of our students are engaged and connected. You'll also want to be sure to join our phenomenal PTSA and help plan opportunities for our community.
Please reach out to me or to our HVA staff at any time and share some of the amazing things that are happening with us as we come into your home virtually and you come into ours as well. This year's theme is "What's Your Story?" We want to hear from you and your students as we get to know each other and work together to ensure your students have the skills and attributes to be life ready. Together we will have an amazing school year! Get ready for the journey!
Sincerely,
Garry Marshall
