About the HVA
For some students, virtual learning offers the flexibility, individualized environment and focus to reach new heights. In keeping with Henrico County Public Schools' goal of helping every student achieve academic excellence, the division launched the Henrico Virtual Academy at the start of the 2021-22 school year. Students enrolled in this fully online K-12 school attend classes virtually with a mix of synchronous classes — learning online in a group with a teacher — and asynchronous, or independent learning. In 2022, the Henrico Virtual Academy became an independent school. The Henrico Virtual Academy is the only K-12 school serving all Henrico County students.
Academics: The HVA has a strong academic curriculum, including a number of programs that meet the intellectual, social and emotional needs of our diverse population of students. Feedback is encouraged as the HVA expands offerings.
Extracurricular activities: Students have access to VHSL-approved extracurricular programming at their home schools, as well as extracurricular offerings provided through the HVA. The Henrico Virtual Academy mascot is Sage the Lynx. Sage was developed by a staff member and student with input from the HVA community. The official Henrico Virtual Academy school colors are teal, blue and orange.
Applying: Students living in Henrico County may apply during the annual application window. New applicants are ranked by recommendation, grades, attendance and prior success in virtual learning. The application window for the Henrico Virtual Academy is currently closed for the 2023-24 school year.
