About the HVA

For some students, virtual learning offers the flexibility, individualized environment and focus to reach new heights. In keeping with our goal of helping every student achieve academic excellence, Henrico County Public Schools launched its first fully online K-12 school at the start of the 2021-22 school year: the Henrico Virtual Academy, or HVA. Students at the academy attend classes virtually with a mix of synchronous classes — learning online in a group with a teacher — and asynchronous, or independent learning. In July of 2022, the Henrico Virtual Academy became an independent school. The Henrico Virtual Academy is the only K-12 school serving all Henrico County students. Each year, an application window is open for students who reside in Henrico County to apply for any reason. New applicants are ranked by recommendation, grades, attendance, and prior success during virtual learning.

The HVA has a strong academic curriculum, including a number of programs that meet the intellectual, social, and emotional needs of our diverse population of students. Feedback is encouraged as we seek to expand offerings. Students will have access to VHSL approved extracurricular programming at home schools as well as extracurricular offerings provided through the HVA. The Henrico Virtual Academy mascot is Sage the Lynx. Sage was developed by a staff member and student with input from our community. Our official school colors are teal, blue, and orange. The application window for the Henrico Virtual Academy is currently closed for the 2022-2023 school year.
